Dr. Alain Ahishakiye, CEO of our organization, recently conducted a workshop for Rotary Club members, focusing on the importance of human capital\u2014defined as the combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and individual attributes that contribute to personal, social, and economic well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Citing Becker (1975), Dr. Ahishakiye emphasized that investing in human capital should begin early in life. Recent scientific research underscores the significance of the first 1,000 days of life (from conception to age 2), marking this period as crucial for human capital development. As our ancestors wisely said, “Igiti Kigororwa kikiri Gito” (“A tree is best straightened while still young”). Dr. Ahishakiye also introduced the concept of the Human Capital Index, a measure of the potential a child born today can attain by the age of 18, considering health and education challenges within their country. He stressed the need for multidisciplinary collaboration to enhance this index through early childhood development, as well as women’s education and empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
